Your Beautiful Face – Seven Oils In Seven Days
Day 2 – Lemon Sunshine For Your Face!
by Jill Taylor
While cruising on the Nile River in Egypt in 1999 with ninety other Young Living members, my friend, Marcella Vonn, shared her story of visiting Egypt three years earlier with Dr. and Mary Young and a smaller group of Young Living friends.
She said with the quality of water in Egypt being questionable, she knew she would add the oil of lemon to her water to make it safe. Dr. Young had taught her that lemon has strong antiseptic and anti-bacterial properties, so she added several drops of lemon oil to her glass of water.
A minute later, she was surprised to see a black film settle across the surface of the water. So she covered her glass with her napkin and poured the water into another glass and drank it safely! Fortunately when our group traveled three years later we had access to quality bottled water, but we still used our lemon oil just in case!
Last night on our Thursday Forum call, Pat told us about having lunch with a friend and dropping lemon oil in her water. She asked her friend if she would like to try some lemon oil in her water. Her friend said yes, and when she tasted it, she said, "That's really refreshing!"
Although lemon essential oil is cold-pressed from the rind of the lemon, one of the best things you can do for yourself to start your day is to drink the juice of 1/2 a lemon in a cup of warm water, followed by another cup of water 15-30 minutes later.
For beautiful and healthy skin, lemon essential oil from the peel of the lemon is a natural astringent, antiseptic, and bactericide which is of particular benefit to people with acne prone and problem skin. It is also used to balance the pH of the skin, brighten dull skin, and calm redness. Lemon oil is often added to facial cleansers and is one of the ingredients in Young Living's A.R.T. Sandalwood Toner.
Lemon oil stimulates the production of white blood cells which protect the body and fight infection. It also promotes a healthy lymphatic system and is highly beneficial to the immune system and has multiple other uses including benefits for anxiety, blood pressure, overweight, stress, hair disorders, stomach problems, insomnia, and asthma.
For removing cellulite, lemon oil brings balance to the fluids in the cells and promotes optimal circulation which is needed to remove cellulite. Lemon oil is also one of several essential oils that are a wonderful ingredient to add to homemade body scrubs.
"I always carry my Everyday Oils in my purse, and rather than using the commercial soaps in public restrooms that are loaded with chemicals, I wash my hands with a few drops of lemon oil. (Remember – essential oils are extremely concentrated.) This way I know I am safely killing germs while boosting my immune system at the same time!" ~ Jill
Did you know the antidepressant effects of lemon oil can drive the blues away in just a few whiffs? The fragrance is uplifting and can reduce negative emotions and cause a feeling of pleasantness.

Lemon oil has been called "The Sunshine Oil" because of its color and its warm and cheerful fragrance. If you suffer from wintertime SAD (Seasonal Affective Disorder), this could be a way to bring a little more sunshine into your life!
Have you ever felt a refreshed alertness by breathing in lemon oil? Lemon oil reduces stress and helps increase concentration.
If you would love for me to share a delicious "Almond & Lemon-Crusted Halibut Florentine" recipe in a future issue, send me a comment. (To substitute lemon oil for lemon zest in your favorite recipe, the equivalent is 1/4 teaspoon of lemon oil equals the zest of 1 medium lemon (1 tablespoon) – a quicker, easier way!)

Lemon for moles and warts
Author: Hjordis Owens
I find that Lemon Oil (sometimes mixed with Oregano oil) works well for removing moles and warts. Since it is pretty strong on the skin, I try to make sure it only gets placed on the wart itself and then I try to scratch it in a bit. Usually they are gone in 2 weeks if you apply the oils morning and night. I have recommended it to others and supplied them with the lemon oil and it works for them too. It's not an expensive oil and certainly better than going to a dermatologist. (CAUTION: Citrus oils are photosensitive, so do not expose skin areas to the sun for 48 hours where citrus oils have been applied.)
No more blockage in arteries
Author: Richard Benson
A few years ago I was diagnosed with 70% blockage in my arteries. Two years ago I started taking NingXia Red, one ounce in the am and one in the pm. I added one drop of lemon oil and one drop of peppermint to each ounce.
I just had a complete physical and there wasn't even a trace of LDL in my body. I also add one to three drops of lemon oil with every 'glass' of water I drink. Notice I said glass not bottle or plastic cup. The lemon oil can leach the plastic from the bottle or cup into the water.
When I heard that lemon oil destroys petrochemicals on contact I started putting all the lemon oil I could into my body.
Lemon oil as a deodorant
Author: Solange S.
I've wanted to stay away from the commercial deodorants for a long time and couldn't find any natural products that helped. I received my Everyday Oils kit and decided to try the lemon oil as a deodorant because in Ecuador people sometimes use lemon juice. Well, the lemon oil has worked perfectly and now that is the only thing I use. Also, one time I forgot to use lemon oil and since I keep lavender oil at work, I used the lavender oil and that worked just as well!
Lemon oil for sore throat & heartburn
Author: Rachel Roberts
After eating too much food close to bedtime, I awoke with heartburn. I put 3 drops of lemon oil on my tongue and drank 8 oz. of water. The lemon eased the heartburn. Moments after this I was busy looking up which oil I could use for my sore throat. After I found some recommendations, I was trying to decide which oil to use when I realized my throat was no longer sore, because of the lemon I had used for my heartburn.
Lemon oil for acid stomach
Author: Gloria Maddick
While at the Rodeo last year, a few people in our booth were complaining the fried food was causing discomfort in our throats when we burped! I suggested we all put a drop or two of lemon oil in our water. This did the trick.
My next burp a few minutes later had no acidic taste! People really wanted that bottle of lemon oil! Thanks Young Living!
Permanent marker erased with lemon oil
Author: Taina Kingston
Our 2 year old wrote with black permanent marker on our light colored maple banister railing. I tried to get it off with a couple other methods before I remembered lemon oil is good for stuff like that. With a bit of scrubbing and some lemon oil you cannot tell it was ever there!!

Great article, Jill. I’d love your recipe for “Almond & Lemon-Crusted Halibut Florentine” – Cathy Killigrew
Wonderful article and testomonials. I needed all of this info again, what was said about using the lemon on your face and what Richard said about you lemon oil in NingXia Red. Thank you. Thank you. Mark Hall
I use lemon oil with my moisturizer on my face & add chamomile oil to balance it out and calm redness. I have skin lupus and it has helped clear up rashes. It is important to use sunscreen — even under fluorescent indoor lights, as any citus on skin makes you ultra photo sensutuve. with me, i already have that problem w/ skin lupus. I also mix lemin oil with water in a spray bottle and spray it on my rug and living room furniture ( I have cream colors) to kill dust mites and bacteria left behind even after a good vacuum.
Lemon oil is a safe thing to use with water when cleaning your pet areas as well. We have two house rabbits and a guinea….. I don’t use harsh cleaners in their cages. The lemon oil kills any bacteria, fungi or anything harmful that may grow in their homes. My critters don’t mind the smell…. As long as it’s diluted:)
There are countless other uses for lemon oil as well.
How or what proportion do you use lemon oil as a face wash?
